Elevating the visibility of Indian Health care issues has been a struggle shared by Tribal governments, the federal government and private agencies. For 36 years, the NIHB has continually played a central role in focusing national attention on Indian health care needs. Despite all of the progress made by the federal government and non profits, Indian Country can achieve more with increased participation at the tribal level.
The future of health care for American Indians and Alaska Native (AI/AN) is intertwined with policy decisions at the federal level. Your stories, visits to Congressional representatives, letters and phone calls can drastically change the course of Indian Health care in Congress!
The National Indian Health Board issues periodic legislative alerts to keep stakeholders informed about the current legislative actions that are occurring in Congress which may affect the AI/AN health care systems. NIHB Legislative Action Alerts give specific action items that people can do to assist with advocating for quality health care among AI/AN people.
