Tribal Epidemiology Centers are Indian Health Service, division funded organizations who serve American Indian/Alaska Native Tribal and urban communities by managing public health information systems, investigating diseases of concern, managing disease prevention and control programs, responding to public health emergencies, and coordinating these activities with other public health authorities.

To improve the health of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) by:

In 2011, NIHB was asked to participate in the TEC Workgroup. In January 2012, NIHB attended their 1st TEC Workgroup meeting held in Portland, OR. The Northwest Portland Indian Area Health Board hosted the event with the Indian Health Service. NIHB views this as an opportunity to work with the TEC’s to elevate issues surrounding data collection, analysis, Tribal and State relations, and other epidemiology issues facing the TEC’s mission and vision.
