The NIHB Policy Center announces this new tool for Tribal leaders and Tribal health policy staff to track Dear Tribal Leader Letters sent from agencies.  This tool will include analysis of each letter to highlight action items and deadlines.  The database will be searchable by keyword, date and agency.

This web portal is a resource for American Indian and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) and those who work with AI/AN communities for relevant and accurate knowledge around health care reform. We are in a period of changes being made to health care delivery as established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for the last four years. Stay looped in with these changes and access resources to better understand your work as it relates to outreach and education on health care reform for AI/ANs.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR HEALTH INSURANCE MARKETPLACE ENROLLMENT

November 1: Open Enrollment begins – first day to enroll into a Health Insurance Marketplace plan

December 15: Open Enrollment Period Ends

January 1: Coverage for consumers begins

SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD FOR LIFE CHANGING EVENTS

Individuals and families who experienced a life changing event may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to get health coverage. Life changing events include: getting married, having a baby, adopting a child, losing other health coverage, moving to a new residence, leaving incarceration, and change in income or household status. However, documents for verification and qualifying for the special enrollment periods may have changed, check with your local enrollment assisters for more information. 

 

NOTE: Members of federally recognized Tribes still have a special enrollment status, which means they can enroll in a Marketplace plan at any month.  

 

MEDICAID AND CHILDREN’S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM ENROLLMENT

Enrollment in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is year round. Eligible individuals and families may enroll in their state’s Medicaid or CHIP program at any time during the year. Click here to learn more about Medicaid and CHIP coverage.
