The Indian Health Service, and the Department of Health and Human Services are working to implement the entire Affordable Care Act, including the Indian Health Care Improvement Act. In July, Dr. Yvette Roubideaux, MD, MPH, Director of the Indian Health Service, wrote a “Dear Tribal Leader Letter” outlining some of the provisions the agency considers “effective immediately” meaning that no regulation is needed to carry out the provisions.
Additionally, the administration has been conducting Tribal consultation on provisions as they implement them. The administration’s first provision specific consultation was on section 157, access to federal insurance.
