Medicare, Medicaid and Health Reform Policy Committee

The Medicare, Medicaid and Health Reform Policy Committee (MMPC) is a standing committee of the National Indian Health Board (NIHB).  The committee is chaired by a member of the NIHB Board of Directors.  The primary purpose of MMPC is to provide technical support to the Tribal Technical Advisory Group to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (TTAG).  TTAG is a group codified by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 and is composed of formally appointed representatives from each Indian Health Service (IHS) Areas as well as from specific national Indian organizations.  TTAG advises the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Indian issues related to Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and any other health care program funded (in whole or part) by CMS.

MMPC continues work on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Indian Health Care Improvement Act (IHCIA) health policy issues, regulation review and the development of draft positions with the greatest opportunities and highest priority for the Indian Health System. MMPC also acts as a national forum to identify, discuss, advise and act on issues that will improve the health of American Indians and Alaska Natives.  In this capacity MMPC has the ability to pool expertise in Indian health care from across the country in order to develop information and recommendations on current issues.  Implementation of components of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that are outside the jurisdiction of CMS are examples.

Membership in MMPC is open to individuals authorized to represent:  a Tribe; Tribal Organization; Urban Indian Health Program; or Indian Health Service (IHS).
