On May 23, 2022, the Office of Budget and Management (OMB) will be holding Tribal Consultation to receive recommendations, feedback and questions from Tribal leaders and Tribal organizations on the President’s 2023 Budget. Specifically, the Office is seeking feedback on the proposal to shift funding for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Indian Health Service (IHS) funding from discretionary to mandatory, feedback on the reclassification of the Bureau of Indian Affairs Contract Support Costs, feedback on lease costs from the Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act Section 105(l), and feedback on future funding for future Indian Water Rights Settlements.
This consultation is extremely important because OMB is the final agency to review what goes into the President’s budget. Indian Country’s input is vital for ensuring that our interests are accurately represented in the President’s final proposal. NIHB remains actively engaged on the budget process. We recently provided support for the IHS Budget Formulation Workgroup and prepared Tribal leaders for HHS’s Departmentwide Tribal consultation. We look forward to continuing to provide support for Indian Country in its advocacy on the President’s budget.
The Consultation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM ET.
