New Enrollment Period for Tribal Members

On April 8, 2022 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released an announcement on new equitable relief for individuals who could not submit premium Part A or Part B enrollment or disenrollment requests timely due to challenges contacting CMS by phone. Specifically, if a beneficiary or a potential beneficiary were unable to enroll or disenroll in Medicare after January 1, 2022, they are eligible for additional time to do so through December 30, 2022. Relief may help Tribal members and Tribal beneficiaries of Medicaid who had tried to enroll or disenroll on the phone in 2022. This information is also important for Tribal health care staff, Tribal enrollment assisters and patient benefit coordinators when working with Medicaid eligible Tribal individuals. Relief applies to the 2022 General Enrollment Period, the Initial Enrollment Period and the Special Enrollment Period.
