American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/ANs) had the highest ageadjusted
suicide rate of any racial or ethnic group in 2022.1

  • Suicide was the 9th leading cause of death for Al/ ANs across all ages in 2021
    and 2022. In 2023, it was the 8th leading cause.1
  • The non-Hispanic Al/AN suicide rate increased by nearly 20% from 2015 to
    2020, compared to less than one percent in the overall U.S. population.2
