Culture

Honoring Culture for Healing

At NIHB, we believe that culture is healing, and we are committed to placing it at the forefront of all we do. From the programs we develop to the events we host, we celebrate the rich traditions, values, and resilience of American Indians and Alaska Natives. We work closely with our member organizations and Tribes to ensure that cultural practices and perspectives are woven into every aspect of our efforts. Through storytelling, we honor the voices and experiences of Indian Country, sharing narratives that reflect the strength and diversity of our people. By uplifting culture, we create a foundation for healing, connection, and thriving communities.

Community

In our work, community is everything. It is where our strength comes from, where our stories are told, and where the wisdom of our ancestors guides our path forward. At NIHB, all that we do is rooted in connection, collaboration, and the shared responsibility of building healthier futures for our people.

As part of this community focus, we gather for events, honor the Tribes, and are stronger together.

Storytelling

Since time immemorial, storytelling has been the lifeblood of our cultures. It is through stories that knowledge is passed down, histories are preserved, and lessons are shared. American Indian storytelling is not just an art—it is a sacred responsibility, a way of teaching and learning that has shaped generations.

We honor this tradition by using storytelling to amplify the voices of Indian Country and advocate for the changes we need to see. Our stories are more than just narratives; they are powerful tools for education, advocacy, and change.
