WYCOA: 10 Early Signs Of Abnormal Memory Changes

Honoring Memory: Recognizing Early Signs of Cognitive Changes in Native Communities

The Wyoming Center on Aging (WyCOA), in collaboration with tribal stakeholders, has developed a culturally responsive resource to help identify early signs of abnormal memory changes in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. This visually engaging booklet and poster provide insights into the 10 Early Signs of Abnormal Memory Changes, adapted from the Alzheimer’s Association’s guidelines, and incorporate Native imagery to foster connection and awareness. The resource aims to bridge gaps in dementia education by aligning modern medical knowledge with traditional cultural perspectives. Free printable copies are available, empowering families, caregivers, and healthcare providers with accessible tools to promote early detection and intervention.
