Kris(ten) Bitsuie is an enrolled Tribal citizen of the Diné Tribe (Navajo Nation). She serves as the Tribal Health Care Outreach and Education Policy Manager for the National Indian Health Board and has been with the organization for over nine years. Ms. Bitsuie is well known across Indian Country for providing quality technical assistance, education, and training on the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program, as well as changes in the Indian health care system. She serves Indian Country as a national advocate on the importance of outreach and education activities at the ground level to drive the Indian health system and connect Tribal citizens to better care. Ms. Bitsuie has 28 years of experience working with Indian Health Service, Tribal, and Urban (I/T/U) programs, but her experience with Indian healthcare goes back even further. Raised in a remote corner of the Navajo Reservation, Ms. Bitsuie grew up speaking Diné and has depended on traditional healing and the I/T/U system for her healthcare until this day. Ms. Bitsuie’s personal warmth, practical approach, and deep expertise allow her to create a learning environment that is accessible to everyone and breaks down technical issues and concepts into practical, digestible take-home knowledge. As a result, Ms. Bitsuie provides trainings and technical assistance that are useful for I/T/U staff of all levels of experience.
