Maternal mortality review is more than the examination of medical records, it is an opportunity to understand the whole person. In this session, Amanda Roedl, MSN, RNC-OB, shares her experience as an Indigenous maternal mortality nurse abstractor and explores how culturally grounded abstraction can strengthen case review. Participants will learn practical strategies for incorporating community, cultural, environmental, and historical context into case narratives, helping committees better understand the lived experiences. Because culture is not just background information, culture is medicine.
